About the Show

Everyone has a food evolution that starts with their culture, or religion, or family traditions. Eating habits are influenced throughout life: at school, through travel, socializing, work, college, friends, lovers, neighbors and trends.

Every day we make decisions about what we eat and drink. At the core, these choices are inspired by our personal history. This show is an exploration of those moments that inspire our guests choices and some things that may inspire you, too.

Because our Personal Food Evolution brings us from a point of not thinking about what we eat to more awareness of the food system, food and sustainability go hand in hand. The more you know about the food system, the more likely it is that you'll make decisions based on what's best for the planet and what's best for your body, which usually is a more sustainable and eco-friendly choice.

Shelly lives with her husband, Brett in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She raises chickens and grows food in her backyard garden, enjoys nature, loves farmers markets, local farmers and food producers! In her free time, Shelly enjoys cooking, eating, preserving, and fermenting the food she grows, sharing her knowledge and harvest, and exploring nature. 

Having a passion for sustainable local foods and food systems, Shelly has worked as an organizer, teacher, farmer, and advocate for local foods. Shelly was part of the inaugural class of Chatham University's Food Studies program, and earned her MA in Food Studies from Chatham University.
